"The Wild World of Animal Prostheses"
"The Wild World of Animal Prostheses" was an article wrote by Carolyn Sayre about the technological advancements within the use of prosthetics. She states that over the course of a short time period the advancements made in the prosthetics helped veterinarians save the lives of animals in need. Without the prosthetics some veternarians are using most of the animals would not be able to carry on a normal life or even live anymore. In addition, Carolyn Sayre says that advancements in prosthetics for animals helps doctors find better ways to help treat human patients. In her article she also brings up the possibility of the prosthetics going to far, such as the case in the neuticles. She uses great description, statistics, and humor to make her article enjoyable for people to read. I found this article to be very interesting because we help animals by providing prostheses for them, but animals help humans out by being an experimenter of our new developments. I think that animal prostheses are a good thing because it is a positive for both animals and us. I do think it could be going to far with the neuticles, but the basic prosthetic advancements humans have made are undoubtedly a benefit. Another thing that caught my attention while reading this article was that she talked about the advancements that have been made in a short period of time, only a few years. This article was written in 2007, so I thought to myself, how far has the prostheses world came since then? It has been seven years since this article was written and I think it would be very interesting to see the advancements that have been made since then.
