I really enjoyed reading this article because of the way it was informative and shed light on a current issue. This is an issue that people have the greatest influence in changing. Places like SeaWorld are built as an entertainment industry and their treatment of animals have always been questioned. I like how the author brings up the movie Blackfish. This movie directly links SeaWorld to animal abuse. The author noted that SeaWorld denied the allegations of animal abuse and tried to discredit the movie. The author then goes into detail about killer whales acting out and the hint of animal abuse.
I believe places like SeaWorld have been getting away with the mistreatment of animals for a long time. SeaWorld's main goal is to bring in crowds of paying customers to watch killer whales, dolphins, and other aquatic life perform. SeaWorld is a business and the care and treatment of their animals is up in the air. The author talked about SeaWorld's method of buying and selling killer whales in Iceland. This involves breaking up numerous families, relocating them, and adapting to a new environment. Animals should not go through this kind of suffering. I constantly ask myself, " What are they thinking?" "Do killer whales get depressed?" "How can we make life better for these animals?" Scientists argue that the aggression shown by these animals can be linked to cramped waters, bad nutrition, and depression. Over the years SeaWorld has gotten a lot of heat for potentially hiding evidence of abuse. Although the article didn't prove that their was abuse it did reveal the controversy surrounding SeaWorld and pump public awareness.
