"Creature Comforts"

"Creature Comforts" by Rebecca Skloot is an article that was published in The New York Times about the use of service animals. She starts off her article by talking about a woman who uses a miniature horse as a service animal. In the beginning, everything starts off perfectly fine and seems to be good, but then she goes into talking about the complications of service animals and what people think of them. In her article, she stays mostly neutral about the situation, but provides many stories to explain the complications of service animals and problems that come with them. Many people, employers, and businesses allow service animals; however, there are a few that forbid them and say it has gone too far. In my opinion, there is no standard that can determine whether an animal is necessary for a service or not, it all depends on the case at hand and the needs of the person. I also feel that for people to forbid access of service animals is an unfair thing to do. In most cases, I feel that service animals are a necessity for people, but I could see some cases where they aren't necessary. I think that for people to have a service animals a court should determine whether or not the service animal is a legitimate necessity. In my opinion, if a court deems the service a animal necessary component to the individual's life, it should be allowed access to any place during any given time. If the service animals are necessary for people to make it through the day safely and happily, then I am all for them, but I also think that they must have the right training and be considered safe in public.
