When I read the title of this article it definitely caught my attention. Because I don’t have or know of anyone who has a pet with a prosthetic limb; I was curious as to what the article would be about. I was saddened by the stories of the wild animals and how they lost a limb. Carolyn Sayre did a great job using pathos in her article. She included stories to create emotions for her readers; she also provided hope at the end of her article, stating that there are doctors/researchers looking into making better prosthetics. She kept me interested by sharing facts and stories. It kept her article going and definitely kept me in the loop. Aside from the pathos and logos used in her article; Sayre gave me a better understanding of the relationship between animals and humans. We are so much more alike than we think we are. We go through the same problems such as losing limbs. This takes me to my own opinion on prosthetics. I’m a strong believer in happiness and although we may not be able to detect an animal’s emotions as doctors attach their prosthetic leg on. I believe that anyone, animal or human, who’s given the chance to have what was taken away from them again, would be so very grateful. I understand that the amount put towards these prosthetic limbs may be costly but if you could help out your pet, why don’t you? Just like, for example, if you were given the chance to help your veteran father walk again, you would do it, wouldn’t you? I would. And the same goes for animals, if we are going to help humans, we too can help animals.
On another note, I found it very interesting reading about how they’ve found better ways to attach prosthetics and how to decrease irritation or pain. It also surprised me that they were able to help Winter, the dolphin, swim again. It’s always a great feeling to help those in need.
