I was very intrigued by the article. First, the title “‘For
The Dogs’ Has a Whole New Meaning”, drew in my attention, it is a
sensationalist title and I’m sure it was meant as an attention-grabbing device.
I liked how the beginning of the article was a broad listing of what you would
think would be fancy foods meant for humans. Then, after the first five lines
the narrower topic of fancy pet foods become clear.
Throughout the article I liked how the use of facts and
quotes balanced out with the description of the pet expo. I also liked that
there was some humor at the end, because some things that were mentioned in the
article seemed a little ridiculous. The author Andrew Martin appealed to the readers’
senses because he used very descriptive language especially when describing the
taste of the dog treats. He really pained a good picture for the reader of the
pet expo. Also, the use of the facts and quotes made the article seem reliable.
As an owner of three cats, my kitties eat organic kibble.
However, I never have been drawn in to buying any fancy treats for them. The
article mentioned that the “demand for luxury pet products is strong enough to
lure companies and even celebrities into the business” and I was wondering if
that has helped the pet business continue to thrive during the recession. Are
people buying a designer, and most likely more expensive, dog bed because they
like the designer? I just buy my cats
cheaper toys because I know that in a few days the toy will be lost under a
couch.
